What is covered?The training is comprehensive without being complex in detail and covers everything required to manage mouth care for vulnerable adults Plenty of practical advice is given throughout the training to help develop practical skills and build confidence.

What are the learning objectives?By the end of the training the student will have learned: Understand Best Practices in Mouth Care – Learn effective oral care techniques, including supporting individuals with complex needs and proper denture care. Recognize Common Oral Health Issues – Identify and manage conditions such as bleeding gums, dry mouth, and ulcers. Understand the Link Between Oral and General Health – Gain knowledge of how oral health impacts overall well-being and systemic health. Apply Best Practices and Clinical Governance – Ensure compliance with current standards, policies, and quality care frameworks. Conduct Oral Health Assessments – Learn how to assess oral health needs, including what to look for in the mouth and identifying soft tissue findings. Manage Resistant Behavior to Oral Care – Develop practical strategies to support individuals who resist mouth care. Implement Palliative and End-of-Life Oral Care – Understand the latest guidance, recommended tools, and best practices for maintaining comfort and dignity in palliative care.

Will I receive a certificate?Yes, you will receive an email after you have completed the training with a Certificate of Attendance and resources.

Is a Dental care professional a dentist?A dental care professional is a person qualified to practise certain aspects of dental care. The term dental care professional (DCP) covers a number of titles that are eligible for GDC registration. Knowledge Oral Health Care contract Dental hygienists and dental hygiene therapists who are qualified to deliver oral health education, demonstrate tailored mouth care for individual clients and deliver mouth care. Offering support and advice to care staff for those who require it. This is all within their scope of practice. How can I learn more about the 3-day programme?To find out more about what the 3 days entail, you can organize for us to give you a call by using the contact form available on our website. We require specific details about your care home to propose the best way to carry out the site visits with minimal disruption. Once we have this information, we will submit a detailed 3-day plan to provide a structured approach for your organization.

We are a community care based, can we have this service too?Yes. The 3 Day In-House service can be applied to any care company whether it is community care, learning disabilities, hospital, hospice or elderly and nursing.

Will I receive a certificate?Absolutely! Every staff member who participates in an in-house training session will receive a certificate, which will be sent to the care home. Additionally, the care home itself will be awarded a certificate upon completing the 3-day programme.

Can the DCP carry out oral health assessments for all of our residents?The Oral Champion/s will received training on how to carry out an Oral Health Assessment to include what to look for in the mouth. The visiting DCP will be happy to carry out an oral health assessment for each resident and place it in the oral care plan. Particularly as this is one of the criticisms from CQC SMiling Matters Revised Report 2023.

We are having difficulty registering residents with a dentist. Can we register with you?We are not dentists and although we are able to attend to residents oral health we are unable to carry out other aspects of dentistry. However, we are partnered with At Home Dental [domiciliary dentists] who we can put you in touch with.

Will we be able to have oral champions trained?Yes, Depending on the size of the care home will determined how many Oral Champions you require training. Oral Champions will receive separate training. It is a CQC recommendation that care homes have an Oral Champion. Oral Champions are vital to the success raising the standard of oral healthcare.

Do you help with CQC compliance?Yes, we will ensure that you have everything in place and help you with anything your oral care policy, plans and assessments.
