  • What is the difference between a Dental Care Professional (DCP) and a dentist?
A Dental Care Professional (DCP) is different from a dentist. DCPs, such as dental hygienists and dental hygiene therapists, are qualified to perform specific dental care tasks and are eligible for GDC registration. They provide oral health education, tailored mouth care, and support to care staff. DCPs are essential in our training programs, helping care home staff deliver excellent oral care and uphold high standards in care homes across the UK. For more details, visit the General Dental Council website.
  • How can I get more details about the 3-day programme?
To get more details about our 3-day programme, please use the contact form on our website to arrange a call. We'll need specific information about your care home to plan the site visits with minimal disruption. After gathering this information, we'll provide a detailed 3-day plan tailored to your organization. Our programme ensures compliance with NICE guidelines and aims to enhance oral care standards in your facility.
  • Can community care providers access your services?
Yes, community care providers can access our services. Our 3-Day In-House service is available to all care settings, including community care, learning disabilities, hospitals, hospices, and elderly care. We tailor our services to meet the specific needs of each care setting, ensuring all staff are equipped with the skills and knowledge to provide excellent oral care.
  • Do participants receive a certificate after training?
Yes, every staff member who participates in an in-house training session will receive a certificate, which will be sent to the care home. Additionally, the care home will be awarded a certificate upon completing the 3-day programme. These certificates demonstrate a commitment to high standards of oral care and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Can DCPs perform oral health assessments for all residents?
Yes, DCPs can perform oral health assessments for all residents. Oral Champions will be trained on how to conduct these assessments, including what to look for in the mouth. The visiting DCP will carry out an oral health assessment for each resident and include it in the oral care plan. This is crucial for addressing criticisms from the CQC Smiling Matters Revised Report 2023. Regular assessments ensure residents receive the best possible oral care and help care homes meet regulatory standards.
  • We are having difficulty registering residents with a dentist. Can we register with you?
We are not dentists and although we are able to attend to residents oral health we are unable to carry out other aspects of dentistry. However, we are partnered with At Home Dental [domiciliary dentists] who we can put you in touch with.

Yes, Depending on the size of the care home will determined how many Oral Champions you require training. Oral Champions will receive separate training. It is a CQC recommendation that care homes have an Oral Champion. Oral Champions are vital to the success raising the standard of oral healthcare.
  • Do you help with CQC compliance?
Yes, we will ensure that you have everything in place and help you with anything your oral care policy, plans and assessments.
