Setting a new standard for excellence and make mouth care a key quality indicator on a permanent basis.

ABOUT  The Quality Mouth Care Programme

The Quality Mouth Care Programme was originally developed by North Carolina University 'Mouth Care Without a Battle'.  We have adopted and adapted the programme to include the MOUTh intervention [1] Practical strategies and best mouth care practices for older adults with resistant behaviour.  [Staff are trained and supported in attending to service users that are challenging].

The programme is designed to boost oral care knowledge and performance; ensuring staff are competent in all aspects of mouth care. We'll also train and communicate with oral champions and will help you with compliance in oral healthcare,

3. Quarterly Progress Report

We hold reviews with the Oral champions to share ideas, success and challenges. CQC suggest that updated guidance is developed to support care staff with residents that resist mouth care.

4. Reporting Resistant Mouth Care

If a dependent resident refuses mouth care on several consecutive attempts, after exhausting a list of actions, this should be escalated to healthcare professional.    Do the best you can with using the practical strategies outlined in our training, if this fails then report it to us.

 5. Weekly Q&A Sessions

Live webinar sessions are held every Monday at 6pm.  Staff do not need to prebook.   The same webinar link is used for each session.  The webinar sessions are open to all staff to discuss any mouth care matters.
