      ESSENTIAL ORAL CARE TRAINING FOR ALL CARERS AND SPEECH THERAPISTS THAT WORK/ASSIST PEOPLE WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES

​Training includes knowledge and understanding of the potential impact of learning disabilities and the risks to oral health.  Training groups are valuable to discuss difficult issues and help staff.

The training session will raise awareness of the importance of daily mouth care as well as practical advice for those people that are dependent or need assistance in oral care techniques.

We provide carers with the knowledge and ability to plan and deliver daily mouth care within care homes and domiciliary care.  Our training is bespoke to each care homes requirements.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this course participants will be able to:

 

-Have a better understanding of how to assist people with learning disabilities in carrying out basic daily oral hygiene procedures

-Have a better understanding of  the prevention of oral diseases and the maintenance of good oral health to include dietary recommendations that are in line with healthy eating policies

-Recognise the need for specialised mouth care and supporting people who require assistance

-Be able to identify the links between poor oral health and the effects on the body

-Be able to outline the NICE Guidelines (NG48) and what this means for you so that you are better prepared for CQC

-Have a better understanding of what to look for when carrying out an Oral Health Assessment.

-Acknowledge coping strategies for residents with challenging behaviour towards mouth care

Provide Daily Mouth Care for dependent and medically compromised residents with

  • Dysphagia

  • Palliative care

             

​-Provide evidence-based method recommended to the dental profession to reduce COVID-19 in the mouth.
